Today I wanted to share with you the Valentine cards that I made my little kiddos - Maelyn, Sage, Kale and Cody. I just love the stamp set, Yummy in My Tummy (pg 16 in the Occasions Catalog) - a wonderful stamp set to make birthday cards for the 2-8 year old set. (Cody is 13, but he still appreciates a slimy monster or two.) So why not a Valentine card? That horned monster, with the big circle on his tummy is just asking to be made into a shaker card!
Here is what I made:
Green Monster: I slimed the green monster two ways; one card I used the fine tip glue pen and smeared that all over him. Once he dried he was a 3-d slime fest. It took several hours for the glue to dry. So next, I used a sponge dauber and versa mark and inked up the slime monster with that. I also used my blender pen, dipped in a puddle of versa mark ink to get the small area. Then I used clear embossing powder, and blasted it with the heat gun; instant shiny slime monster!
Horned Monster: I stamped the horned monster in archival black ink on a sheet of the 6x6 paper stack, Sending Love (pg. 15), fussy cut him out and punched out his tummy with a 1-1/2" circle punch. I then punched out some glittery red hearts using the red glimmer paper and the confetti hearts punch. To fill the shaker part, I used glittery hearts and the Sprinkle Embellishments (pg. 32). These have little pearls in it and it makes the monster rattle ever so nicely.
Here is what the inside of the cards looked like:
Here are the Measurements:
Whisper white CS - 5-1/2 x 7-1/2, scored at 4-1/4
Real Red - 3 x 5-1/4 for front of card (embossed with Happy Heart Embossing folder)
2 x 5-1/2 for cutting out hearts using the Love Notes Framelits
DSP - 1-1/2 x 5-1/2 and 3/4 x 5-1/2 for inside of the card
Window sheet - 2 x 2
Stamp Sets: Sealed with Love and Yummy in My Tummy
Ink: Real Red
These were fun and easy to do! My grandchildren just loved them!
I want to share with you a card that we made in my January Class which featured 3 different ways to watercolor. This card was inspired by Kim Jolley at Stampin'Artfully. She had a tutorial that showed how to "watercolor" with baby wipes! She laid down a background by dipping crunched up baby-wipes on the ink pad, then dabbing, squishing the baby wipe on the card stock. She also used a clean baby wipe to soften her stamped images. Here is my interpretation of her tutorial:
People have told me that it reminds them of winter in Central Park New York City. It does look like a cityscape! The trees are embossed - I used archival black ink and immediately put clear embossing powder on it and then heat set the embossing powder.
Kim recommended water color paper. I tried that, but I had a hard time inking the trees on the water color paper. So I used shimmer paper - this works well for water coloring because it has a coating on it that doesn't absorb the water as quickly as regular card stock would. Plus, it gives the card a nice sheen and shimmer.
Stamp Sets: Lovely as a Tree, Touches of Texture, Timeless Texture
My students found this a fun and easy way to get a water color effect. It doesn't look like much until you get the trees on it - and then it all comes together. Everyone's looked different but beautiful!
Visit Kim's website for more inspiration on this technique and her tutorial; http://stampinartfully.blogspot.com/
Thanks for stopping by today. May you have a blessed day!

The February 2017 card class for My Stamping Classroom is in session and I'm so excited to share this with you. Once a year I like to do a class that features the note cards that Stampin' Up! sells, (item# 131527). I love these cards for many reasons:
Best Value in the catalog! 20 3-1/2 x 5 cards and envelopes for only $6!
They require no additional postage when mailed
Quick and easy way to build up a stash of cards
Makes a beautiful, useful and thoughtful gift
Here is a picture of what we will be making - all 20 cards plus a beautiful gift box (8 note cards and envelopes fit very nicely in this box).
In addition, these cards are made as a One-Sheet-Wonder - in other words, one sheet of 12 x 12 Designer Series paper makes all 20 cards! The stamp set is Fresh Fruit (item# 141770) and the Designer Series Paper is Fruit Stand DSP (item #141660). You can get 8 sets of DSP for the notecards out of one package of Fruit Stand DSP. (that would be 160 notecards!)
I've had my eye on this stamp set and designer series paper ever since it came out in the new 2016-2017 catalog. I LOVE it! The colors are so summer and right now as I'm in the middle of winter, I could use some color right now! The layout for cutting the 12 x 12 paper came from Brenda Quintana, a very talented Stampin'Up! Demonstrator in Canada. Check out her blog here: http://qbeesquest.blogspot.com/. She did a similar set of 20 note cards a couple of years ago. I took her idea and transformed it into the Fresh Fruit stamp set. The only difference is that I mixed up 4 sheets of DSP to make this.
We will be making 5 cards of 4 different Fruits (5 of the Pear, 5 of the Peach, 5 of the Flower, 5 of the Strawberry), with their coordinating Fruit Stand DSP Paper.
In addition, we will be making a cute box to carry some of the cards in;
This looks complicated, but believe me, it's quite easy. You just have to do it in an assembly line order. I couldn't believe how quick these cards came together! And I'm rather digging how they look.
Times for the class are: Sunday, February 12th - 1:30 to 4:30
Tuesday, February 14th - 10 am to 2 pm
Friday, February 17th, - 10 am to 2 pm
Cost of the class is $15, which includes the cost of the note cards. It's a bargain! Plus you get to meet other stamping people (and you know we are a special breed), and have a fun day making cards. Great get away for a dreary winter day! Please contact me here to make your reservation. Hope to see you soon!
Here's a little video highlighting the cards we will be making in class...
