September Stampin' Stray Ducklings Blog Waddle: Embossing Folders!

 Hi All!

Welcome to our Blog Waddle for September - your place for monthly inspiration!

This month, we challenged ourselves to show different ways to use Stampin'Up's wonderful embossing folders...a must have for every card maker!  I will show you 3 ways that I use embossing folders - we use at least one in every one of my classes!

What is an embossing folder?  They are plastic and hinged, and when you put it through the Stampin'Up Cut & Emboss Machine, it makes a raised pattern on your card stock.  Stampin'Up has 2 types - embossing and 3-D embossing, which gives you a much more distinctive impression.

The first way I use my embossing folder, is simply as a background.  In August, I used the Leaf Fall 3-D folder to give my card a little "something, something", in the very vanilla part of the front of the card.  It adds a bit of texture and interest.

The second way that I like to use the embossing folders is to put the stamped image or the adhered Desinger series paper through a folder - I usually use a fine image, such as the Painted Texture, or he Timeworn Type - a finer image.  What this does to the card, is unify the dsp and also makes it look a bit like a fabric.  On the second sample below, I used different folders, now retired, but the effect is the same:

Painted Texture 3D

Tasteful Textile 3-D folder (retired)

The third way I like to use the Stampin'Up embossing folders is on the envelope flaps!  I unique and quick way to make that envelope a little bit more special.  Here is what is looks like:

Here is a photo of how you would put it through the Cut & Emboss machine.  To avoid a crease and for perfect placement, just put the flap in the folder.

The folder is going through the machine sideways, which is not recommended, but as long as you don't do too many, it should be ok.

I hope you enjoyed today's tips on how to use the embossing folders.

September 2022 Class is now in session!

Hello!

I’ve been working hard on getting the next 3 months classes together.  As I mentioned earlier, this year, I am really concentrating on Christmas cards.  So, for September, October and November, we will be making Christmas cards, almost exclusively.  You will be making 2 each of 5 designs each month for a total of 10 cards per month.  So by November, you should have 30 beautiful, handmade Christmas cards.

Since we are making 10 cards instead of 7, the fee will be $35.

Here are the first set of cards we will be making:

These are easy and elegant cards to make.  Plus you will learn a new technique using Stampin’Blend markers, velum and alcohol.  I’ve also designed 3 cards using the Snowflake specialty velum paper, found on page 40 of the Winter Mini catalog.  I think you will really enjoy making these cards.

Class Dates and Times:

Thursday, September 22nd - 10:00am - 2pm  - home of Bette Nelson
Sunday, September 25th - 1:30 - 5:30 - My home
Friday, September 30th - 10am - 2pm - Morton Christian Church

Please let me know if you are attending by Thursday September 8th - it’s going to take me a bit to get everything ready

Blessings,

Sheryl

August 2022 Stampin' Stray Duckling Blog Hop - Dies

Welcome to the August Stampin' Stray Duckling Waddle!  Your place for great card making inspiration!

This month the challenge was to make a card using our wonderful die cuts that are available in both the 22-23 annual catalog and in our Winter Mini Catalog (July-December 2022 Mini Catalog).  I focused on something that is very exciting and will be available to you on 9/1/22!  It's called Perfect Partners and Stampin'Up is offering dies to sets found in the annual catalog that had no dies previously.

You can see the flyer in the column to the right.  Remember...These are only available while supplies last or until 30 September, whichever comes first.

As a demonstrator, I was able to purchase the Birthday Piggy bundle early on August 1st.  There are 18 dies with the set and not only do they cut out the piggies, but there is flowers, and bows and a wagon and all kind of cute things to decorate your piggy and your card with.

Here is card #1 which is called a diorama card.  I thought the birthday piggies were perfect for this kind of layout.
The place where you can write is on the back of the card.

My 2nd card:  In addition to the piggy dies, I used the fancy frame die in the annual catalog.  I thought it gave the pig some panache!

And lastly, who doesn't love a pig on a scooter!  I used the deckled frame dies from the annual catalog.

All of these dies on the inside are from the Playful Piggy dies.  I may have gone a bit overboard with the dies.

I had a lot of fun with these stamps and dies.  There are a lot of dies, a lot of little dies.  What I found useful was to just cut several at a time in different colors and keep them in a small dish on my desk.  When I was creating the cards, I just picked and experimented with all the die cuts.

Thanks for stopping by today, I hope my cards inspired you!  The next stop on your Stray Duckling Waddle is:  Lori Helvick

July Stampin' Stray Ducklings Blog Waddle - Let's Sale-a-Brate!

 Hi all!

We are back with another blog waddle that we hope inspires your creativity!

This month we will be showing you some of our favorite Sale-A-Bration product.  My hands down favorite it the  Hippest Hippos Stamp set and Coordinating dies (get each free for every $50 spent in Stampin'Up product )

Here are 2 cards that I made with this stamp set.  I just made one for my little 6 year old granddaughter for her birthday. I love the little umbrella!  And who doesn't love a hippo in a polka dot tutu!

I made a card similar to this for my granddaughters 6th birthday.

This one may look a bit familiar - I'm using this card for my July 2022 classes - it's a fun fold called a diamond easel card.  I got my inspiration from Dawn Griffith, a Stampin'Up demonstrator in Michigan.

The other Sale-a-bration stamp set that I absolutely love is called a Wonderful World - If you spend $100 you can get this stamp set and the coordinating 12 x 12 Designer Series paper.

Here is the card that I made.  This was designed by Linda Heller - I loved it so much that I C.A.S.E d it.

The stamp set is gorgeous.  It's a patent pending stamp type called Distinktive - the shading is beautiful.  I did find, however, that I got the best image if I inked up the stamp using sponge daubers - it made for much more subtle color.  This was a tip from Linda Heller, Stampin'Up demonstrator in North Carolina.  (here is her link )

This fold is called a double gate fold and it's a great way to use up all the Designer Series Paper that you've been hoarding. (Come on- I know your out there with your tons of DSP, like me!)You can also use card stock and cut the Designer Series paper to layer on top.

Hope you enjoyed today's cards.  Your next stop is Lori Helvick

July 2022 Class is Now in Session!

Greetings All!

Hope you are enjoying your 4th of July!  I’ve been busy planning out July card classes.  As you know by now, the new Winter mini-catalog from Stampin’Up is out as well as the new Sale-a-Bration brochure,  as of July 1st.  I have to be honest with you…I was not ready for this catalog.  I’ve barely wrapped my mind around the new annual catalog.  Plus, I don’t want to think about fall or Christmas, because it eventually involves cold weather and I am definitely not ready to even think about that yet!

I had a great deal of difficulty coming up with cards since I felt I should probably be featuring the Winter mini and someone did suggest doing Christmas in July.  Sorry…just can’t do it!  So I compromised..I desigend 2 cards from the annual catalog and 1 from the winter mini and 1 from the sale-a-bration catalog.  I can live with that!

So, here are the cards: I did one Fall, one Christmas and 2 fun fold cards.

There’s some fun stuff in this class.  There are 2 fun fold cards,( the hippo card- a diamond easel card,  and the Fall card- called a joy fold card)  you will learn how to mask (that’s how I got the tea cups to stack) and a very easy but elegant, Christmas card.  I just had to showcase the hippo stamp set which is free with a $50 purchase not including S&H and tax. Who doesn’t love a hippo in a polka dot tutu?   I’m a big fan of Fiona the little hippo living at the Cincinnati zoo.  In case you don’t know, Fiona was born 6 weeks premature - the smallest hippo to be born that survived.  Her story of survival was documented by the zoo and she really is a little miracle.  And of course she is as cute as can be.  I’ve never met her in person, but that is on my bucket list.

Here are the times and places for the July Classes:

Thursday, July 14th - 10am - 2pm - home of Bette Nelson
Friday, July 29th - 10am - 2pm - Morton Christian Church
Sunday, July 31st - 1:30pm - 5pm - my home

Let me know by Sunday, July 10th if you plan to attend one of my classes.

Blessings,
Sheryl
