October Stampin' Stray Ducklings Blog Waddle - Celebrating Fall

 Hi all!

Welcome to our October 2022 Blog Waddle.  Fall is here!

Cool nights, warm days, the trees preparing for their winter sleep, pumpkins, colorful gourds and hot apple cider!  All images of fall.  This month we are trying to capture that in our cards that we are showing you.

Today we are celebrating the Autumnal Season with cards.  Here are 4 samples of cards that I have been inspired to make using a variety of techniques and tools.

I used a fun technique with this card:  I used the baby wipe technique, where you add spots of color from your re-inkers onto a baby wipe, then use the baby wipe as your stamp pad.  I used Old Olive, Cajun Craze and Pumpkin Pie re-inkers to create this card.

Isn't she cute!  I used a fun new way to add DSP to my card.  My base card was 4-1/4 x 11, scored at 5-1/2.  I then cut a Basic White layer of 4 x 5-1/4.  I used the Gingham Cottage DSP paper by cutting 2 - 2 x 2 squares and then cutting them diagonally, placing the triangles in each corner.  Makes for a unique use of DSP and a bit of an optical illusion!

This card is a basic layout - one of my favorites.  I add texture to the layering panel of card stock by using the Leaf Fall 3-d embossing folder.  A little dry embossing adds that extra something-something to a card.  

And lastly, this beauty which I CASE'd from Mary Deatherage of stampsnlinger.com.  I was really taken with this card and it was so easy to make from a 6x6 piece of DSP - this creates not only the background on the card, but you have enough left over to decorate the envelope flap.  I used the Rustic Harvest Designer Series paper, and then colored the leaves using blending brushes adding the colors of  Daffodil Delight and Pumpkin Pie stamp pads.

Just one more.  I use paper napkin to make this card!  Yes and so easy to do!  You just need to tear off the layers until you only have one.  A glue stick on some Basic white card stock to glue it down, trim and you have a very pretty background for your card.  There are so many pretty napkins that are made, the possibilities are endless.  I made this as a birthday card for our minister at church.

September 2021 Stray Ducklings Blog Waddle - I'm falling for Fall!

 Hello Friends!  

Welcome to another Stray Duckling Blog Waddle (we waddle, we don't hop).  

This month we are celebrating fall and/or Halloween.  The card that I designed, I got my inspiration from Diane Evans, a demonstrator in Canada. Here is the link to her post.  Click Here to view. 

Here is my card - I used gold foil paper and Dark Cherry Cobbler,  Dark Evening Evergreen and Dark Cajun Craze Stampin' Blends and 91% alcohol to make this unique card.  I also used the little fence from the Sheep Sale-a-Bration die set (free with a $50 order), because, like bacon, everything looks better with a cute little fence.  

I got the idea to use the scrapes from the cut out of the tree canapy from one of my customers.  In fact she's the one who directed me to this technique.  Thank you Cathi!

The Technique:  I took a piece of foil that would fit the canopy die (2-3/4 x 3-1/2), and randomly scribbled the three colors on it with Stampin'Blends - then I took a paint brush, dipped in the 91% rubbing alcohol(must be at least 91% - anything lower has too much water in it) and dabbed it on the foil.  I pretty much saturated it.  Then you set it aside and let the magic happens as it dries.   The alcohol markers dissolve with the alcohol leaving a very pretty and interesting pattern.  Once it is dry, I cut out the tree canopy using the Beautiful Tree dies.  Save those little pieces that pop out.  I used those on the small stamped tree image for the inside.   The tree on the front of the card was die cut out of Early Espresso, again using the Beautiful Tree dies.  The background is the Beauty of the Earth DSP, found in the 2021-2022 annual catalog.  

The gold foil in combination with the colors makes the tree come alive.  At least that's what I thought.  

I embossed in gold the sentiment on a scrape of Early Espresso and cut it out with the small frame die found in the Beautiful Tree Dies set.  My bad, I used a retired stamp set for the sentiment - but it fit!

          Early Espresso (tree stamp on the inside of the card)

          Stampin'Blends - Dark Cajun Craze, Dark Cherry Cobbler, Dark Evening Evergreen

Card Stock:

          Gold foil Sheet - 2-3/4 x 3-1/2

          Merry Merlot - 4-/14 x 11, score @ 5-1/2

          Beauty of the Earth DSP - 4 x 5-1/4

          Early Espresso - 3-1/2 x 4-3/4 for die cut tree trunk; 1 x 2 for front sentiment- heat embossed

          Cinnamon Cider - 2 x 3-1/4 to die cut fence - sponge edges lightly with Early Espresso Ink

          Basic White - 4 x 5-1/4

September 2020 Card Class - Card #3

Hi All!

Today's card is a WOW card - it combines the deep, fall colors of  Early Espresso, Cajun Craze and copper.  It also has a fun closure, called a buckle.  Here is a picture of the card:

The copper leaves are two toned and I'll show you in the video how do this easy technique.

September Card Class - Card #2

 Hello!

Here is card #2 in my September class series....This one shows a creative use of Designer Series Paper and it uses one of my favorite stamp sets, Love of Leaves.  Here is the card:

I love the embossing element to the leaf.  I also used the acorn trinkets that are part of the Gilded Autumn Suite.  However, I will warn you, the acorn is very heavy and very round.  You would have to send this card through the mail with a padded envelope, or better yet, hand deliver.  At the end of my video I will show you some alternative ideas if you don't wish to use the acorn.

September Card Class - Card #1

 Hey all!

Here is card #1 for my September 2020 card class.  The theme is Fall Celebration - So I have a 3 cards that can be used as Fall cards or Thanksgiving and one Halloween card.  I also used a lot of product from the Gilded Autumn Suite especially the the Gilded Autumn Specialty Designer Series Paper. 

So here is the first card - very, very easy to do.

You can use any of the copper and gold designs in the paper pack.  What makes this card especially pretty is the Gold Card and Envelope cards, found on page 51.  These are vanilla cards with gold detailing and gold envelopes.  You get 10 cards for $10.  A photo fits perfectly within the frame or designer series paper!  Really elegant and really easy to make.

September Class is in session

Good Morning!

I've been hard at work making cards for the September and October classes.  Yes, I'm actually pre-planning.  I looked at my calendar and September and October are going to be quite busy, so I thought I better plan ahead.

My September Class will be held on Sunday, September 11th, 1:30 - 5:00 pm
                                                            Tuesday, September 13th - 10am to 2:00pm
                                                            Friday, September 16th - 10am - 2 pm

Since this will be Pumpkin Festival week in Morton, be expecting some Pumpkin surprises. And of course we have to make a pumpkin card!

We will be making 2 fall cards and one Christmas, using the new product from the 2016 Holiday Catalog.  If you have not gotten your copy yet, please let me know and I'll get one to you pronto!  There are some very exciting things in the Holiday Catalog.  You will not want to miss out!

In a few days I will give you a sneak peek at the October class.  I know I promised you some fun folds, but that may have to wait until November.  We will see.  I reserve the right to change my mind at any moment!

Please let me know if you will be attending my class, so I know how many kits to make.  I need to know by Thursday, September 8th.  I look forward to seeing all of you and stamping together!
